EU-FP5-Thematic Network of Excellence (2002 ? 2004) Summary The major thrust in the ANWIRE workprogramme is that of laying the preliminary groundwork for 4G concepts and requirements, as well as design and standards' specification roadmaps for 4G mobile wireless networks. It further aims to integrate research expertise in two key overlapping areas: i) Wireless Internet and ii) Reconfigurability in mobile wireless networks. The main topics being addressed by ANWIRE work groups are: ? Generic requirements system concepts. ? Efficient, always on always best connected connectivity. ? Application architectures for the support of Reconfigurability and Adaptability. ? Adaptable Service Architectures. ? System Integration. These are being addressed throughout all the communications layers (physical to application) and with a global focus (though with a special European interest).
